Best weapon in Skyrim – final version

I mentioned before that the best weapon in Skyrim is actually a player crafted weapon. But back then, I didn’t have all the skills needed to create the most powerful version of this weapon.

Since the first version was created, I leveled up quite a bit and I managed to max out the skills needed to truly craft the most powerful weapon in Skyrim. I call it DEATH, since that’s pretty much the only thing it’s good for.

And just like I said before, anyone can make such a weapon. No mods and no cheats, just the right skills, perks and materials.

How to create the BEST weapon in Skyrim:

First, you need to max out the following skills (reach level 100) and learn the appropriate skill perks:

Alchemy: Alchemist, Physician, Benefactor;

Smithing: Steel Smithing, Arcane Blacksmith, Dwarven Smithing, Orcish Smithing, Ebony Smithing, Daedric Smithing;

Enchanting: Enchanter (5/5), Insightful Enchanter, Fire Enchanter, Frost Enchanter, Storm Enchanter, Extra Effect.

Second, you’ll need the right equipment, materials and ingredients. These are as follows:

– a set of alchemy apparel (clothes or armor of any kind): hat (or helmet), gloves (or bracers), necklace and ring;

– a set of smithing apparel (clothes or armor of any kind): clothes (or armor), gloves (or bracers), necklace and ring;

– grand soul gems, ebony ingots, Daedra hearts, alchemy ingredients with Fortify Enchanting (Blue Butterfly Wings, Hagraven’s Claws, Snowberries, Spriggan sap) and Fortify Smithing (Blisterwort, Glowing Mushrooms, Sabre Cat Tooth, Spriggan Sap);

– you’ll also need to learn the enchantments for your weapons (like Fire Damage, Storm Damage, Frost Damage) and for your armor (like Fortify Alchemy, Fortify Smithing, Fortify Heavy/Light Armor, Fortify One-handed/Two-handed).

Now that you have all the items you need, you’re ready to start crafting. Here’s what you have to do, step by step:

1. Go to an Alchemy Lab and create 4 Fortify Enchanting potions.

2. Go to an Arcane Enchanter and make a set of alchemy apparel by enchanting: hat (or helmet), gloves (or bracers), necklace and ring with Fortify Alchemy and grand soul gems. Remember to drink a Fortify Enchanting potion before creating each item, so that the enchantment will be stronger.

3. Equip the set of alchemy apparel and create 4 stronger Fortify Enchanting potions and then use them to create a more powerful set of alchemy apparel.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 about 2 times until you reach the maximum potency for the set of alchemy apparel.

5. Equip your most powerful set of alchemy apparel to brew the strongest batch of Fortify Enchanting and Fortify Smithing potions.

6. Go to an Arcane Enchanter and make a set of smithing apparel by enchanting: clothes (or armor), gloves (or bracers), necklace and ring with Fortify Smithing and grand soul gems. Again, remember to drink a Fortify Enchanting potion before creating each item, so that the enchantment will be stronger.

7. Go to a Forge or an Anvil and create your Daedric weapons and armor, using the ebony ingots and Daedra hearts.

8. Go near a Grindstone or a Workbench. Equip your set of smithing apparel and drink a Fortify Smithing potion. Use the Grindstone to improve your weapons or the Workbench to improve your armor.

9. Go to an Arcane Enchanter and enchant your weapons and armor with the enchantments you want. Don’t forget to drink a Fortify Enchanting potion before enchanting each item.

To get the highest damage output from your weapons, you’ll also need to enchant your armor pieces and some jewelery, so that they enhance your weapon skill (Fortify One-handed/Two-handed)

This also applies if you want the get the highest armor rating from your armor, by enhancing your armor skill (Fortify Heavy/Light Armor).

Note: The Notched Pickaxe is a unique artifact that Raises the wielder’s Smithing abilities. However, it doesn’t seem to help improve your gear any further, so you don’t really need it in order to make the best weapon and the best armor in the game.

Note: While experimenting with various skill fortifying potions,  I’ve came across a way to improve your equipment even further by using Fortify Restoration potions. However, this seems to be a bug, since it will irreversibly break the skills and will crash the game when used too many times. So, DO NOT USE Fortify Restoration potions with Alchemy and Enchanting.

i like your information and it is very useful i used it and i also made the weapon you made and a way better one too. but your last part and i quote says ” While experimenting with various skill fortifying potions, I’ve came across a way to improve your equipment even further by using Fortify Restoration potions. However, this seems to be a bug, since it will irreversibly break the skills and will crash the game when used too many times. So, DO NOT USE Fortify Restoration potions with Alchemy and Enchanting.” My brother used the fortify restoration potion trick a few times on all of his files and he use it on alchemy so i’m not 100% sure your right about what you said in the last part of your document.

  2. TheHuntsMan says:

i find your findings quite useful so thank and also my brother has done the fortify restoration potion on his alchemy and got it legendary 13 times and the game never crashed. so i don’t think your last part is 100% correct but still the rest is pretty authentic.

This was very helpful. I have been floundering around trying to do more damage and not die as much, and this guide offered clear directions on maximizing game mechanics to make extremely effective weapons and gear.

I was able to create a Daedric Sword that I used this technique to enchant with frost and shock damage, then improved it as well. I also created a set of Dragon Scale armor with the same methods. Below are numbers and percentages:

Fortify Enchanting potions increased enchanting by 31%

Fortify Smithing Potions increased gear improvement by 124%

Enchanted Gear improved smithing by 29%

Enchanted Gear improved potions by 29%

    RESULTS (All Legendary)

    Daedric Sword: 430

    Dragon Scale:

    Armor: 238
    Boots 103
    Gauntlets 103
    Helmet 113

I am sure this could have been done better and more effectively, but this massively improved my damage and overall game experience. I one shotted almost everything without power strikes, and frost trolls barely damaged me at all.

However, I found that I could be badly damaged and quickly die from Arch Mages wielding Shock Damage. So on my next set of armor I may add some Magic Resistance to offset that.

  4. sendeth says:

guys the damage listed for the weapon changes with the armor you are wearing. equip a weapon while naked and then equip each piece of armor one at a time and you will see the damage go up. the super high damage you keep seeing is with multiple pieces of armor or jewelry that add damage to that weapon type. for example, when you equip all smithing armor/jewelry and upgrade your sword it will go to maybe 200 or something. then you put all your armor that you normally run around in back on and it jumps up to 500 or whatever.

This is completly untrue I am level 67 at Skyrim and have done every single quest there is to do. I have all the skills needed I’m lvl 100 at sneaking, archery, one-handed, two-handed, archery, smithing, alchemy, enchanting, destruction, and illusion. I have done the exact way you said and have got a good weapon yes, but not this one. I did this to see if it was true but you are also lying about it being the best weapon because my (legendary) moonstone Daedric dual Son battleaxe has 744 dmg 80 magika dmg and 15% burn to health no hacks no cheats. This is a pretty powerful weapon, but not the most powerful.

    • Devan says:

Hes only saying that its the most powerful weapon in his game, or in general that a player crafted/enhanced weapon is the best, so the one you have, is the best for YOUR game you cant make the same exact one he has at the exact same levels and stuff, with the way he did it nothing is set in stone as to how much extra percent you have for each skill from the potions.

  6. Dear Alix ,
This might be off topic, however, I have completed all companion quests and have the room in jorrvaskr and I was storing weapons in the chest on top of the cupboard I just finished the thieves guild final quest with nocturnal and I went back to jorrvaskr and all of my weapons were missing from the chest.. any help? Does anyone know if its a glitch or is it my xbox?
    All the Best

    • Glance says:

This is actually warned against in the game itself. Any items you store in chests that do not belong to you specifically have the chance of being taken/disappearing.

  7. umm...bob says:

I’ve got a daedric mace up to 480 (37 frost + 37 fire damage) but thats about as far as it wants to go. Clothing items with skill boosts seem to be capped at 29%, the last guys numbers seemed right to me
    clothing + skill 29%
    smithing potion 147%
    enchant potion 37%

    boots + 48% one handed
    guantlets + 48% one handed
    necklace + 48% one handed
…ahh, didn’t have the right ring on + another 48% one handed

    damage: 575

(armour rating is 1000 – could have got it higher but I went for magic second enchantments)

  8. Streetvan1997 says:

I retract some of what I said, with a 48% ring and necklace of one handed I can get it up to something like 348. Im just guessing your clothing you put 48% more on one handed on a few items, I did bow instead.

  9. Streetvan1997 says:

Post what numbers you are getting with your potions, and your outfit, My outfit numbers are 29 %, and again you can wear five enchantment items, and four smithing, potions- smithing 147% and enchanting 37%

Thats as high as it gets without cheating, I can get my daedric sword to be worth as much as yours, but The damage I cant get above 182. Explain why yours is 550.

  10. Streetvan1997 says:

This is not possible this sword, I have the top of the line outfit to make the best weapoins and armor, and have the top of the line enchantment and smithing potions, Enchantment potion up to 37%, you cant go any higher, Smithing potion is 147%.

And with 5 items on that effect my enchanting
and 4 that effect my smithing I can only get the sword up to 182, and if I try putting those enchantments on without the enchantment potion it says 24 points. With the potion, it goes up to 29 points. How you got it to 81 is impossible.

    You must have done something.

  11. joden says:

my daedric bow do damage of 3000+

  12. skyrim lover 8000 says:

you all are lies i have a sword that does 10,000,000 dmg and 5,000 fire, frost, and electric dmg

  13. AliX says:

It may be possible to get higher values with the DLCs or with the Legendary difficulty setting.
I don’t have any of the DLCs yet, but I’m planning to get them sometime soon (I heard they’re really good :) )

  14. Edmond says:

The easiest way is to level up your character to level 15 then go to the Septimus Signus’s Outpost located above the Collage Of Winterhold and do the quest Discerning The Transmundane and get the book Oghma Infinium ( You will need to be level 15 or higher to do this quest) Find a book shelf and store the book in the book shelf and then took it out and read it and place it back in the book shelf again. Try saving before doing this glitch. If you done it wrong, the book will be destroy. If you do it right, you will be able to level up your character to the max of level 81 and all your skill peaks will be level up to 100 at the early stages of the game and you will be able to smith all the best weapons and armors!!!! That is what I do…..have fun!!!

  15. Thezanman says:

My sword is better it is 721 damage and 90 fire and frost damage.

    • Simas says:

could you make a video about you awesome sword or something???

    • avlucas says:

Obviously your weapon is “stronger” than the one in this guide. In this guide the author is showing a dagger, which have less damage than a sword. Having said that, with the right perks you can get up to 30x (maybe even more?)this damage when doing a sneak attack with a dagger, which basically can one hit kill anything. Dagger<Sword<Waraxe<Mace<Great Sword<Battleaxe<Warhammer (not taking into consideration the speed of each, wich overall they would have almost the same damage rate per second)

  16. Howard says:

You don’t have to drink fortify enchantment before enchanting EACH weapon. You can get three or four enchantments in with one potion (30 seconds). Using a potion for each weapon is wasteful and does NOT make the enchantment any stronger.

    • SpungeWorthy says:

      This is a false statement.

      • Joe the Elf#15 says:

This is a true statement you silly boy. Skyrim masters think about this kind of stuff and would get wooped if their were player vs player matches to see who has the best skyrim characters!

  17. http:// says:

My previous comment: also helps if you have maked enchanting and alchemy but if you can make potions and get enchantments it only mean youl have to it more times than a maxed. all ingridients can be found in the lake next to riften with the beehive place in the middle(where you do thieves guild quest)

  18. http:// says:

There is a more cost efficient way to make even more powerfull items. All you need is ingridiets to make fortify restoration potions, a set of alchemy enchancing gea(i’m not good at writing english), and a ring with NO enchantments. To get super gear faster you should have ingridients for a fortify enchanting potion. First equip your enchanted gear. Then go into the alchemy lab and make a single fortify restoration potion. then exit the alchemy lab and go to your inventory. Drink the potion and without exiting your inventory, re-equip your alchemy enchacing gear. Repeat this until you have INSANE percentages(like 100m) if you start getting negative numbers DO NOT DRINK THE POTIONS. they will crash your game. Then make a single fortify enchanting potion. You should have insane numbers on this aswell or it has not worked properly. Then drink the potion. THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO is to enchatnt the unenchanted ring with fortify alchemy to eliminate need to this for the future. Then enchant your gear. be weary, because the effects wear off. when you start seeing normal numbers, re equip your gear AND put on the super enchanted ring. Make another fortify enchanting potion and keep enchanting. hope this helps. found this from a wep page but i dont remember name:( looking for it

I like the idea behind this. I am a new player and I have been messing around a bit with this type of stuff. I managed to make a Daedric Warhammer (Legendary) with 134 damage. I enchanted it so it absorbs 127,792 points of health with with every strike and if the enemy dies within 63,896 seconds it fills a soul gem. The value of this warhammer is 13,605,398. I even have a picture to prove it!!!

  20. Stone says:

Okay i followed ever step except the enchanting of the sword and my damage only ended up being 124. How do i make it up to 550?

  21. silver58 says:

how to u(you) get sprigan sap?

  22. Rob says:

Thanks for this. I actually was searching for different info and this not only answered my question, it also answered questions that I didn’t even know to ask! (I just started playing Skyrim.)

  23. helpful person says:

The ebony blade!!!!!!!!! no one has ever even mentioned it. go to whiterun, find rumors, and talk to the king person about his strange son! It drains the enemies health and never needs to be charged. You WILL LITERALLY BE INVINCIBLE. I haven’t died in the past 3 months.

    • Angrygrandpa says:

Dude it sucks. All it does is 15 points of damage and that’s it.

    • Correcting Person says:

the ebony blade does like 25 damage or something i used this to make a daedric sword with 721 damage and 90 fire and frost damage

      • Xeromaus says:

The ebony blade, when maxed, absorbs 30 health per hit with unlimited charges, and does 25 damage per hit. It’s a 2h that swings as fast as 1h weps, in some cases faster. As long as you can keep swinging this blade, you ARE invincible, especially in crowds with the sweep perk.

He never said it was the highest damage, just makes you unkillable to mobs…except in dwemer ruins where the enchantment does nothng against animunculi.

  24. rob says:

a ‘grimsever’ is better than chillrend. 15 ice points. get it from a dwemer falmer place. it has a big dwemer boss though. its on the side next to him. mzinchaleft is the place. i made a video on youtube

  25. rob says:

theres a place where theres a giaint club. you cant pick it up, but… a companion (helper) can! it does 108 damage! (on my game)

  26. IplaySkyrimAllDayEveryDay says:

Confirmed that this works, though just a little disagreement with the Enchanting perks. Left path (shock, fire, frost) is really not required, heck, I even suggest going to the middle path so your health, stam, and magicka enchants are stronger. Best enchant for your weapon as a meleer is no enchant at all, since Elemental Fury beats any enchant you could put on a weapon. But anyway, thanks again for the find, have 1100 attack power as a dualwield with Elemental Fury, killing Ancient / Elder dragons on Master mode in 3 seconds flat. People take alchemy for granted, I know I did…and look at what it can do…

    • Xeromaus says:

You need to find a wep with inherent enchants, like wuthrand and the like. EF still affects those weps. Aside from that, EF is better for traveling with crit charge (daggers+DF, EF it, then do a lunge and you’ll see) than for making high damage. Why swing faster and hit more, when you can hit once and be done (especially a sweep attack).

  27. I am not certain the place you are getting your information, but good topic. I must spend some time studying more or understanding more. Thank you for magnificent information I used to be on the lookout for this info for my mission.

  28. Yoyo says:

This would be a great weapon to make the game really easy and boring…

  29. Thanks! that will really help me get more onje hit kills thankyou! you are the best!

  30. Wow! i never knew you could do this thanks! i love one hit kills this will really help. Thanks.

  31. eli says:

i think your glitch is really helpful for deadric quests
    and mages quests

  32. Ian says:

This trick will get bow damage up to 736 (Though only if using a falmer helmet/circlet combo for archery damage enchants. (and a two handed mace can hit for 703.

  33. Corpsey says:

I’m pretty much doing this with a bow.. so I’ll have similar damages with a ranged attack :) I love alchemy.

  34. Shit fart says:

Most tards that play this game think the chillrend is the best weapon but you oviosly beat it by a mile. I new u could do things like what you were doing to max out weapons but not like this so thanks for the help
